Opening a new office or location is one of the few chances to set technology up properly from scratch, instead of inheriting years of accumulated mess. Done in the right order, day one is people getting to work - not waiting on IT. Here is the checklist.

Plan before the space is ready

The most expensive mistakes happen when IT is an afterthought. Cabling, internet installation, and hardware lead times all take longer than expected. Plan while the space is still being fitted out, not the week before you move in.

Network and connectivity

  • Business internet ordered early - install dates slip, so give it runway.
  • Wi-Fi planned to cover the whole space and handle the number of people and devices.
  • Cabling and network hardware sized for now and a little growth.

Devices

  • Laptops and equipment specified per role and ordered with lead time in mind.
  • A consistent, repeatable setup so every device starts the same and is easy to support.

Accounts and email

  • Email, accounts, and the apps each role needs, ready before day one.
  • A sensible structure for access, so people get what they need and nothing they do not.

Security baseline

  • Multi-factor authentication on from the start - far easier now than retrofitted later.
  • Identity and access set up cleanly, and backups configured on day one.

Day-one readiness

The goal is simple: people sit down and work. Getting there is a project with real lead times, best handled before the doors open. See how we handle office setup.
